COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina head softball coach Beverly Smith, fresh off leading the Gamecocks to their 17th NCAA Tournament appearance in history and second straight under her watch, hosts summer camps in June and July to help improve youths’ skills in the game.
The three June dates are tailored to travel-ball teams of different ages. On June 16, teams that compete at the 12U or younger levels are welcome for the day camp at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field, while the more advanced 16U groups are invited for June 17. On June 18, the 14U teams can learn from Gamecock coaches and student-athletes. The fee for each team is $500 for the day of instruction.
Camps resume in July with the Next Level camps on July 7-8. For high school players in grades 9-12, this camp is designed to prepare the next generation of college student-athletes with advanced individual skills, game strategies and mental processes, all for $325.
Over July 10-11, players from the ages of 9-16 can take part in the $225 Advanced Camp, where fundamentals will be the main focus of the instruction. Kids from 5-8 can also come to the Lil Gamecocks Camp for $105 during the same days, with basic instructions being given out to this younger group.
The last periods of camps come on July 14-15, where the Gamecocks will hold their Pitching and Catching as well as its Elite Hitting camps. In the mornings, hurlers can learn drills and improve their existing pitches or learn new ones, while catchers refine their footwork and body positioning for throws, blocking the plate and many other areas. It is not necessary for a pitcher and catcher to come together. In the afternoons, the Elite Hitting clinic will feature work on timing and the ability to make adjustments, among many skills. Both camps that week are $175 per person.

All camps are open to any and all entrants, limited only by age, grade level, gender and/or space available. Early registration is encouraged to ensure your spot in the camps.
