COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley and INNERSOLE will hold the organization’s first annual Celebrity Softball Fun-Raiser on Sat., July 19, at 6 p.m. at Carolina Softball Stadium. Tickets are $10 with proceeds supporting INNERSOLE’s Educate My Sole Challenge.

The event, which INNERSOLE hopes will become a family-oriented tradition with the potential of ensuring that there is no child left behind in South Carolina, will bring celebrities and the community together in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. The evening’s highlight will be a seven-inning softball game between Gamecock coaches and former players, media personalities, local officials, current NFL players, current SEC coaches, former WNBA players and Olympians, including Staley. Celebrities confirmed to participate include Alshon Jeffrey, Justice Cunningham, Cliff Matthews, Ray Tanner, Nell Fortner, Sheriff Lott, George Rogers, Judi Gatson, Terri Williams Flournoy, Cynthia Cooper, Corey Miller, Forrest Alton, Sheldon Brown, Michael Haley, Duane Parrish, Derek Phillips and Beverly Smith.

The Educate My Sole Challenge is an initiative for second through fifth grade classrooms with an emphasis on attendance, accompanied by a deep commitment to ensuring that students are engaged in the classroom. The Challenge includes one participating pilot school and one community partner and focuses on four areas – academics, attendance, behavior and physical fitness. The winning classroom at each participating school in each grade level with the highest measurable improvement will receive a new pair of “prized” shoes at the end of each grading period.
