NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced that the South Carolina men’s and women’s track and field teams were amongst the top scholastic programs in the country as both earned the organization’s All-Academic Team Award.

This was the sixth straight year that both teams earned the award. Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Kentucky were the only other teams from the Southeastern Conference to have both its men’s and women’s teams win the award.

A total of 208 women’s teams and 116 men’s teams earned the distinction as a result of earning a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or higher. The South Carolina women achieved a 3.44 GPA, while the men recorded a 3.07.

Garnering individual honors were Chalese Davis, Sarah Graham, Petra Olsen, Erika Rucker and Jeannelle Scheper earned All-Academic honors. Graham was one 39 women across the country to earn a 4.0 GPA.

A total of 727 women from 193 institutions earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for their combined academic and athletic accomplishments. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
