COLUMBIA, S.C. – As assistant track coach for distance and cross country, Andrew Allden, enters his second season back in Columbia, the South Carolina cross country team released its schedule today for the upcoming season which features seven meets, including three home meets.
Carolina opens the season with a pair of home meets at Hilton Field on Fort Jackson on Aug. 30 and Sept. 13 to get ready for the main portion of its season. Two weeks later, the team will head to the Charlotte Invitational to run its first 6K meet of the season on Sept 26.
The following week, Carolina will travel to Bethlehem, Pa., on Oct. 4 for the Paul Short Invitational for one of its biggest meets of the season. The meet typically brings in 40-50 schools annually with several nationally ranked teams, including many from the Northeast.
The Gamecocks will host their final home meet of season on Oct. 8, before they get their first look at the course they will run the SEC Championships on when they head to Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Oct. 17 for the Crimson Classic. It will be Alabama’s lone home meet of the season and only chance for teams to preview the course. Two weeks later, Carolina will be back at Alabama for the Championship.
The team’s final two-week break of the season will lead into NCAA Regionals on Nov. 14, as the Gamecocks will travel to Louisville, Ky., for the Southeast Regional, as they attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 22.
