Sign up here for fall clinics!

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina’s softball staff has set up four clinics for the fall of 2014 designed to help young players prepare for their upcoming season. All clinics on the first three days set are $60 per session, an amazing deal for the instruction from a staff that has coached back-to-back NCAA Tournament teams.

The first comes on Sun., Sept. 28, an advanced skills clinic open to ages 10 and up. Players will work at defense at their positions, hitting swings and bunting as well as base-running among other fundamentals. The morning session from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. will be for ages 10 to 13, while the older players will go from 2 to 5 p.m.

Sun., Oct. 19 is the date of the second clinic focused on defense. Titled the Mastery of Position Play, this morning clinic will focus on all points defense. At the same time, pitchers can learn more about how to utilize their lower half of the body as well as practice spins with Smith and the camp’s pitchers. The afternoon session that day centers on hitting.

The always-popular Lil Gamecocks Clinic returns on Sat., Nov. 15 for ages 6 to 10, where basic skills are taught to the youngest players. Also on the morning of Sat., Nov. 15 is a pitching clinic emphasizing the rise ball and change-up. That afternoon, the hitting clinic is titled Becoming a Power Hitter, where the staff will use some of the techniques that have helped the Gamecocks break the school record for home runs the past three seasons.

For $150, a session recommended for players 12 and up can come on Sun., Nov. 16 for the Training the College Athlete session. An all-day clinic, the camp staff will talk about hitting, pitching, defense as well as recruiting and some of the philosophies that have helped the Gamecocks succeed.

Registration deadline for each clinic is the Friday before it takes place. All forms and directions as well as registration can be found at bevsmithsoftball.com.

All camps are open to any and all entrants, limited only by age, grade level, gender and/or space available. Early registration is encouraged to ensure your spot in the camps.
