COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina volleyball signee Courtney Furlong has been named the 2014 Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Volleyball.

A 6-3 outside hitter from Oviedo, Fla., Furlong was one of eight finalists in the running for the award. She led Oviedo to a 20-9 record this season, including a trip to the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 7A regional semifinals. She finished the year with 487 kills while hitting .325 and 361 digs.

“We are so proud of Courtney and all of her accomplishments,” South Carolina head coach Scott Swanson said. “Theses awards are so well deserved. Gamecock volleyball will continue to make great strides with the addition of Courtney to our already talented roster.”

Furlong is also a 2014 third-team Under Armour All-American selection and is on the MaxPreps National Player of the Year Watch List. She set the career kills record at Oviedo and is the all-time leader in kills in the Central Florida area. She led Oviedo to the FHSAA Class 7A state title last season and was named the state finals MVP.

The Florida Dairy Farmers High School Sports Awards program recognizes an Athlete of the Year and Coach of the Year each year in 30 sports sanctioned by the Florida High School Athletic Association.
