COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina equestrian coach Boo Major announced on Wednesday the signing of South Carolina native Sarah Isgett (Darlington, S.C./Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate School) to a National Letter of Intent to join the Gamecocks for the 2015-16 season. Isgett is a hunt seat rider and will be able to compete in both equitation on the flat and equitation over fences.
Isgett chose South Carolina over Georgia.
“We’re thrilled to have Sarah sign with us as our first in-state hunt seat signee,” Major said. “She is a great girl and someone we’ve gotten to know very well over the years. Sarah competed at the Maclay Finals this past year and she’ll be coming to us with a lot of experience in the equitation. We think she’s going to be a great addition to our team and we’re looking forward to having her join us.”
Isgett trains with Jack Towell and Liza Boyd. She has qualified for the USEF Medal Finals and ASPCA Maclay Finals the last two years, and competed at the Maclay Finals in 2014. In 2013 and 2014, Isgett also qualified for the Hunterdon Cup Finals. She finished second at the EJ Haun Finals in 2013 and third at the NCHJA Pony Medal Finals in 2011.
A senior at Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate School in Darlington, Isgett is the first student in the history of the school to sign an NLI with a Division I program. She has been a regular on the school’s honor roll, and is treasurer of Tri-Hi-Y, a service organization for young women. Isgett is also a member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, and National Spanish Honor Society.
Her parents are John and Donna Isgett, and she has a younger brother, JT.
