COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina’s A’ja Wilson was named SEC Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season, the league office announced today. Her team-best 15.3 points per game helped the Gamecocks to three wins last week, including an 18-point decision over then-No. 12/10 Texas A&M at Colonial Life Arena.

Wilson’s week included 15.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game to go with averages of 1.7 assists and 1.3 blocks. She led the team in scoring in both home games. In the win over No. 12/10 Texas A&M, Wilson grabbed six of her nine rebounds in the second half after helping the Gamecocks build their first-half lead with 11 of her team-high 18 points in the opening 20 minutes. Against Alabama, Wilson posted her second-best field goal percentage of the season, hitting 7-of-9 from the field en route to 17 a team-high 17 points. She tied her career high with three assists as well. In the final game of the week, she netted eight of her 11 points in the second half and played a key role in an 8-0 second-half run that put the game out of reach, adding two points, two rebounds and a steal to the effort.

For the season, Wilson is the lone freshman to rank among the SEC’s top 20 in both scoring and rebounding. Her 13.7 points per game is ninth-best in the SEC, as is her 7.0 rebounding average. Among the nation’s most efficient freshmen, Wilson is third in the SEC in field goal percentage, hitting 51.4 percent of her shots.

No. 1/1 South Carolina continues a three-game road swing at No. 21/20 Georgia on Thu., Feb. 5, in a 7 p.m. tipoff on the SEC Network. The Gamecocks are back at Colonial Life Arena the following week, hosting LSU on Thu., Feb. 12, at 7 p.m.
