COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina equestrian team travels to Bishop, Ga. this weekend for a Saturday doubleheader against No. 5 Georgia and Delaware State at the UGA Equestrian Complex. The third-ranked Gamecocks will face the Bulldogs at 10 a.m. ET, and will then face off against the Hornets at the conclusion of the South Carolina-Georgia meet.

“We’ve had a good week of practice and we’re looking forward to heading to Georgia this weekend,” South Carolina head coach Boo Major said. “Since the Kansas State meet in September, I’ve really been happy with how well we’ve competed on the road. Georgia’s coming off a very strong weekend at Tennessee-Martin and Delaware State is a team that is always tough to face. With two meets in one day, we’ll need to stay focused and bring our A-game and be ready to go.”

LAST MEETING IN GEORGIA
Then-No. 1 South Carolina used a pair of 3-2 wins by its jumping and horsemanship teams to propel the Gamecocks past then-No. 6 Georgia, 10-9, on Feb. 8, 2014 at the UGA Equestrian Complex. Alexa Anthony (equitation over fences), Johnna Letchworth (horsemanship), and Cody McMillion (reining) all claimed MVP honors for the Gamecocks.

A LITTLE HISTORY
When the Gamecocks defeated Georgia, 10-9, on Feb. 8, 2014, they became the first team to beat the Bulldogs three straight times at the UGA Equestrian Complex. No team has ever beaten Georgia four straight times at their facility.

LAST MEETING VS. DELAWARE STATE
South Carolina picked up a 14-4 win over Delaware State in the teams’ last head-to-head meet, which took place on Oct. 4, 2013 in Dover, Del. The Gamecocks won three-of-four MVPs, as Samantha Smith (equitation on the flat), Amber Henter (equitation over fences), and Johnna Letchworth (reining) earned MVP honors in the win.

LAST NEUTRAL SITE MEETING VS. DELAWARE STATE
South Carolina’s only loss to Delaware State came in a neutral site competition on Jan. 29, 2011. Despite winning all four MVPs, the Gamecocks dropped a 10-6 decision to the Hornets at Baylor. The hunt seat team lost 6-2, but Kelsey Hart made the most of her competition debut for the Gamecocks, earning MVP honors in equitation on the flat while Carolyn Curcio was named MVP in equitation over fences. The western team edged the Hornets in raw score, with Johnna Letchworth (horsemanship) and Chloe Gray (reining) earning MVPs.

NEXT UP
The Gamecocks are off next weekend, but return to action on Feb. 21 when Carolina travels to Texas A&M. The Gamecocks then close out the regular season with home meets on Feb. 28 (No. 4 Auburn) and March 6 (No. 1 Baylor). The Southeastern Conference Championship will be held March 27-28 in College Station, Texas. Two weeks later, the NCEA National Championship will be held April 16-18 in Waco, Texas.
