South Carolina Head Coach Chad Holbrook

Opening statement

Clemson obviously deserved to win the game today and, over the course of three games, they deserved to win the series. They played better than we did. Koerner was extremely impressive today. When I felt like we were in the middle innings and it was a 2-0 game I felt like we were lucky it wasn’t six or seven to nothing at that point. It still felt like we had a chance to win. They put three across in the seventh that made it an up hill battle for us. We didn’t do enough offensively. Their pitchers, over the course of three games, pitched extremely well and their position players, their better players, stepped up and drove the ball and hit the ball. Their good hitters made plays and our good hitters couldn’t do much and you have to credit their pitching staff for that. They outplayed us today and we’ll go back to the drawing board and try to get better. I’ve got to try to find the right combinations because offensively we just haven’t been good enough the last couple days. I’ve got good hitters in our dugout. I’ve just got to figure out the ones to put in there. Other than that, congratulations to Clemson. They played better. They’ve got a good, solid team. They pitched extremely well. They played defense. They deserved to win.

South Carolina Senior First Baseman Kyle Martin

On game in general

(Brody Koerner) came right out of the gate throwing strikes and we just didn’t seem prepared for it. We didn’t swing the bats as well as we hoped. It’s frustrating. It’s tough to see and hopefully we can come out tomorrow and do something better.

On offensive performance

It’s on us but you’ve got to tip your cap to Koerner. He came out of the gate and he was pounding it off the plate and doing everything he could.

On defensive infield struggles

That’s baseball for you. You’re going to have errors and you’re going to make mistakes. It’s just how well you bounce back and we didn’t do a very good job of that today.

South Carolina Junior Second Baseman Max Schrock

On game in general

It was really frustrating. You have to tip your cap to their pitcher. He pretty much stuffed us. He was mixing pitches, threw all three for a strike and kept all of out hitters off balance. Their hitters executed a lot better than we did today.

On moving forward with a busy week of games

We can’t dwell on this one. If we keep dwelling on this one, it’ll snowball on us. We play tomorrow, we play the next day, we’ve got a lot of games this week. The only thing we can do now is look forward to those games and prepare ourselves a little bit better.
