MYRTLE BEACH, S.C – The much-anticipated outdoor track and field season begins this weekend for the Gamecocks, as the team travels to Myrtle Beach for the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. The three-day meet is hosted by Coastal Carolina. It kicked off Thursday with just a pair of events, the men’s hammer throw and the 10,000-meter run.

After closing the indoor season strong, Clarence Gallop started his outdoor season on a high note with the hammer throw. His toss of 60.51 meters (198′ 6″) was good for third overall, behind only an unattached thrower and Purdue All-American Chukwuebuka Enekwechi. In the women’s 10,000, Melanie Ng finished third in her first-ever track 10K. Facing a driving wind and rain, the sophomore finished with a time of 38:58.10.
The bulk of action will begin Friday morning, with running events scheduled to begin at 10:30. Live results will be available throughout the weekend.
