Head Coach Chad Holbrook
Opening Statement…
(Carson) Fulmer was obviously very (dominating). We had a few good passes at him, but the passes we had didn’t find a hole. Max (Schrock) took a couple good passes against him with the one in the first inning and hit one to the warning track. (Fulmer) is the real deal when he is locating his fastball the way he did tonight and it’s going to be a tough night when his breaking ball is spectacular. He’s probably the best pitcher in college baseball. We had it at a 1-0 game there in the fifth and Vince (Fiori) hadn’t been stretched out that long all year long. When his pitch count got to 80, he was about done, so we had to get him out of the game. Then, our relievers didn’t have any success at holding them at bay. We could’ve kept a little bit more respectable than it was if we don’t make that error at second base where Max and K-Mart couldn’t connect on a ball, but we’ll throw (Jack) Wynkoop tomorrow and see if he can give us the same type of start that Vince did. Maybe he can go a little bit deeper in the game and give us a chance tomorrow.

On Vince Fiori’s performance tonight…
Vince was terrific. I was hoping for three to five innings and gave us a little bit more than that. He kept them at bay, for the most part. He gave up one earned run in five and a third and that’s all I could ask for him in his first start.

Junior Left-Handed Pitcher Vince Fiori
On starting tonight…
I’m just trying to do everything Coach [Holbrook] wants me to do. If that’s start, if that’s coming out of the bullpen, I try to show them I pitch the best that I can and to the best of my ability every time I’m out there. If that’s starting or relieving, I’ll do anything I can to help this team win.

Junior Infielder DC Arendas
On going forward…
I think we’ve got to play a complete game. That’s something that we’ve struggled with. Obviously, we’ve got to play better, but I think just winning each inning, break it down into [9, 1-inning games.] I think we have to do that more consistently to turn this around.
