UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. — Former South Carolina All-American Mark Silvers carded a second-round 71 (+1) to make the cut at the 115th U.S. Open on Friday at Chambers Bay.

Silvers finished the round in a tie for 35th with a 36-hole total of 143 (+3). The low 60 golfers and ties made the cut for the final two rounds. After making bogeys on three of his first six holes on the back nine to drop to 2-over on the day, Silvers made a huge birdie on the par-4 16th to get a stroke back and get into the clubhouse in 1-over as he finished two shots in front of the cut line.

Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed share the lead with a 36-hole total of 135 (-5).

Carolina rising senior Matt NeSmith missed the cut, finishing tied for 107th with a total of 149 (+9) after shooting a 73 on Friday.

Silvers will tee off in the third round on Saturday. Fox will carry live coverage of the third round from 2-10 p.m.

KELLY, HUSKEY IN TOP 15 AFTER THREE ROUNDS AT SOUTHEASTERN AMATEUR
At Columbus, Ga., Gamecock senior Sean Kelly moved inside the top 10 at the Southeastern Amateur after firing a 6-under 65 in the third round on Friday at the Country Club of Columbus.

Kelly tallied eight birdies and just two bogeys for his round to move into a tie for ninth with a 54-hole total of 206 (-7).

Carolina rising sophomore Keenan Huskey is in a tie for 13th with a total of 208 (-5) after shooting a 1-under 70 in the third round.

Grant Hirschman of Collierville, Tenn., leads the tournament with a total of 196 (-17).

Huskey will tee off in the final round on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., while Kelly will tee off at 10:40.

STARKE, MURPHY WRAP UP PLAY AT SUNNEHANNA AMATEUR
At Johnstown, Pa., Gamecock rising senior Will Starke shot a 72 (+2) in the third round of the Sunnehanna Amateur on Friday and missed the cut for the fourth round by a stroke.

Starke finished the day in a tie for 53rd with a 54-hole total of 213 (+3). The cut was established at 2-over.

Will Murphy, who was a senior for the Gamecocks this season and is the defending Sunnehanna champion, also missed the cut with a total of 219 (+9) after shooting a third-round 73 (+3).
