WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – South Carolina women’s tennis concluded play at the Tribe Invitational on Sunday, going 3-0 in singles matches against Dartmouth to finish with a 14-1 record for the weekend. Sophomore Hadley Berg and freshman Ingrid Gamarra Martins were named to the Tribe Invitational All-Tournament Singles Team after going a combined 6-0.

With the wins, Carolina caps off a strong opening weekend as a quartet of players picked up wins over teams from Dartmouth, West Virginia, Marshall and William & Mary. The Gamecocks’ only loss at the event was in doubles on Friday as Berg and Gamarra Martins fell to Julia Schroeder and Katherine Yau of Dartmouth, 7-6 (2).

“It was good to get the wins and see the younger players in action,” head coach Kevin Epley said. “We flipped the lineup today, so our freshmen had a shot at some better competition. We have a couple of days until the next event and found plenty to work on this week to get ready.”

Berg, Gamarra Martins and freshman Rachel Rohrabacher all earned hard-fought wins in their matches on Sunday. Berg trailed early in the opening set 2-3 before turning things around to defeat Allison Chuang 7-5, 6-4. Gamarra Martins beat Julia Schroder 7-6, 6-4 while Rohrabacher took down Suzy Tan by the same score. Junior Brigit Folland, who was undefeated throughout the weekend, did not participate in the event on Sunday.

The Gamecocks return to action at the Furman Invitational on Friday, Sept. 25, in Greenville, S.C.
