COLUMBIA, S.C. – After guiding the offense to its best weekend of the season and three commanding wins, setter Aubrey Ezell was honored by the conference Monday morning as its Setter of the Week. This is the first season for the award, and it’s the team’s first weekly honor from the conference since Mikaela Christiaansen earned defensive player of the week last November.
Ezell fueled the offense with 120 assists and 272 total sets over three wins at the Carolina Classic. The team hit .284 for the weekend, with a high of .371 against East Carolina. Against Charleston Southern, the freshman recorded her seventh double-double of the season after finishing with 48 assists and 16 digs and also set a new career-best with five kills in the match. To cap the weekend, she matched a season high with three aces against Wofford, and added 37 assists and 12 digs for another double-double.
So far this season, Ezell has started every match for the Gamecocks. She is averaging 10.51 assists per set along with 3.16 digs.
Next up for the Gamecocks will be a Tuesday night match against Coastal Carolina at 6 p.m. before welcoming in Kentucky Friday to start the SEC slate.
