Sept. 27, 2015

ATLANTA, Ga. ââ’¬” South Carolina men’s tennis wrapped up play at the Georgia Tech Fall Classic on Sunday, finishing with two runner-ups. Sophomore Harrison O’Keefe took second place in Flight B of the singles draw, while the tandem of junior Alex Fennell and sophomore Gabriel Friedrich earned second place in Flight B of doubles.

Due to inclement weather this weekend, many matches, especially in consolation draws, were not played. Only the finals matches in the winner’s brackets of doubles were played.

O’Keefe fell to Igor Smelyanski of Tennessee on Sunday in the finals of Flight B, 6-1, 6-1. He posted a 3-1 record throughout the weekend with wins over Georgia State’s Jack MacFarlane, Georgia Tech’s Daniel Yun, and Arkansas’s David Herrerias.

In doubles, Fennell and Friedrich fell to Smelyanski and Preston Tuliatos of Tennessee in the final of Flight B. They were 2-1 on the weekend with wins Friday and Saturday.

The Gamecocks return to action Oct. 2-5 at the South Carolina Collegiate Invitational in Belton, S.C.
