RALEIGH, N.C. – No. 17 South Carolina (7-4-1) struck early in the second half, but No. 23 NC State (7-2-3) came back to take a 2-1 win at home on Tuesday night at Dail Soccer Stadium.

Two minutes after halftime, senior Jeffrey Torda headed home the corner kick from classmate Ryan Arambula, giving the Gamecocks the 1-0 lead.

NC State came back, however, leveling the match in the 76th minute when Ryan Peterson headed home the chip pass from Zach Knudson. It would be Knudson who gave the lead to the Wolfpack, as he punched home a shot from the six after a run through traffic in the 87th minute.

The Gamecocks made one last shot at tying things in the 89th, but junior Danny Deakin saw his shot from outside the 18 miss right.

Notables:
• South Carolina had a 4-3 lead on shots at the break over NC State.
• It’s the Gamecocks first loss when they scored first in a match (now 6-1-1).
• Torda had three of the Gamecocks’ shots, while junior Koty Millard had two.
• NC State’s Ade Taiwo fired a match-high five shots.
