CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Two first-half goals helped Charlotte (7-4-2, 4-0-1 C-USA) take a 2-0 win on Friday night over No. 22 South Carolina (7-6-1, 4-2 C-USA) at Transamerica Field.

Brandt Bronico got the scoring started early, blasting in a 28-yard free kick in the third minute to give Charlotte the lead. In the 21st, Kyle Parker knocked in the rebound of his own shot from 13 yards away.

The Gamecocks had some good looks at goal in the second half, but none found the back of the net.

Notables:
• Gamecock freshman Trygve Ellingstad saw his first action of the season, subbing on in the first half.
• A very physical match, Charlotte committed 15 fouls, while the Gamecocks were whistled for nine.
• Seven cards were shown, four to Gamecocks and three to 49ers.
