STARKVILLE, Miss. –
Friday’s women’s tennis match between No. 9 South Carolina and No. 22 Mississippi State was suspended due to heavy rain on Friday at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre in Starkville, Miss. The match, which had already been delayed 45 minutes due to inclement weather, will resume on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET. The Bulldogs hold a 1-0 lead after doubles.

The teams got just a couple of games into singles on all courts when lightening and heavy rain halted play. The Gamecocks fell in doubles at No. 1 and No. 2 after the Gamecock duo of freshman Ingrid Gamarra Martins and senior Ximena Siles Luna earned a 6-2 win at No. 3.

South Carolina (12-2, 4-0) is looking for its eighth-straight victory and its third-straight win against a top-25 opponent in as many tries. The Gamecocks, who travel to Ole Miss on Sunday, are ranked in the Top 10 for the first time since 1983.
