COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina head women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley announced that Tyasha Harris (Noblesville, Ind./Heritage Christian) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and play for the Gamecocks. Harris will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2016-17 academic year.

“Tyasha committing to join our Gamecock family brings us great joy,” Staley said. “She is a point guard who has the ability to make an immediate impact for our team. We look forward to her bringing the same championship mentality to our program.”

Harris is the No. 27 recruit in the class, according to ESPN.com and the No. 8 point guard among the group. A finalist for Indiana’s “Miss Basketball,” which will be announced on April 28, she helped Heritage Christian to three straight state championships, including the 2016 title in the program’s first season in Class 3A. After averaging 23.5 points this season, Harris is her high school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,004 points, also pacing the program in career steals (487) and ranking third in assists (426). The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) named her among its 2016 Senior “Supreme 15” All-State after she earned Underclass “Supreme 15” status in 2015 behind her 17.5 points and 4.3 assists per game as a junior.

Harris is the fourth signee for Staley’s 2016 class, joining Araion Bradshaw of Hyde Park, Mass.; Mikiah Harrigan of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; and Victoria Patrick of Orlando, Fla.
