May 29, 2016
EUGENE, Ore. — University of South Carolina Men’s Golf standouts Keenan Huskey and Matt NeSmith were named to the NCAA Division I PING All-Southeast Region Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced today. The All-Region selection is Huskey’s first and NeSmith’s fourth.
A sophomore from Greenville, S.C., Huskey earned medalist honors at the Camden Collegiate Invitational and the Hootie and Bulls Bay Intercollegiate this season, his first two collegiate victories. His 72.14 stroke average at the beginning of the NCAA Championship currently ranks second on the Gamecock team and 10th-best in South Carolina’s single-season history.
NeSmith has also netted two individual titles this season, at the Palmetto Intercollegiate and the General Hackler Championship. A senior from North Augusta, S.C., NeSmith leads the team and ranks third on the single-season Gamecock record list with a 71.09 stroke average.
A First Team All-SEC pick, NeSmith has also been honored with PING All-America laurels in 2013 and 2015. His career stroke average of 71.62 is a school record, as are his 25 individual top 10 finishes.
Led by Huskey and NeSmith, the Gamecocks are currently playing the 2016 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship in Eugene, Ore. It’s the fourth consecutive nationals bid for the Gamecocks.
