Men's Tennis Announces 2016 Fall Slate

Sept. 9, 2016

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina men’s tennis team released its 2016 fall schedule on Friday. The Gamecocks are set to compete in seven tournaments, as well as the ITA All-American and Regional Championships.

“The goal behind fall scheduling is to tailor it to each individual guy’s needs as far as development,” said head coach Josh Goffi. “It’s a time where we can dive into their game and make sure they get what they need in order to continue their development and be ready for the spring.”

Carolina officially begins the 2016-17 campaign by dividing up between the Ivy Plus Tournament (Sept. 23-25) and the Southern Intercollegiates (Sept. 23-26). Following those contests, the team will be represented at the Belton Invitational (Sept. 30-Oct. 2), the ITA All-American Championships (Oct. 1-10) and the Georgia Tech Invitational (Oct. 7-9).

The Gamecocks continue their busy fall with a trip to the ITA Regionals (Oct. 14-18), followed by a quick trip to the Charlotte Invitational (Oct. 28-30). South Carolina closes the fall slate by splitting up between the Bulldog Scramble and the SEC Fall Classic, both of which run Nov. 4-6.

The Gamecocks return each of their eight letterwiners from a season ago when they played some of their best tennis down the stretch – winning three of their last five matches, two of which came against top-20 opponents. The veteran group expects to build on that momentum this fall.

“Even though we came up short of our goals, we’re still excited about how we played at the end of last season,” said Goffi. “The guys were able to see what we are capable of as a team, and hopefully that sets the tone for the work we need to put forth this fall.”
