COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Gamecock women’s tennis team cruised its way to winning five out of six singles matches against Winthrop to close out the South Carolina Fall Invitational on Sunday. Carolina’s Ingrid Gamarra Martins was named the top player in the tournament based on points after going 4-0 in doubles and 2-1 in singles.

“We were a little disappointed with the first day even though we saw some good things, but I think we got better and better each day,” said head coach Kevin Epley. “I was really impressed with a couple of our girls.”

Brigit Folland and Rachel Rohrabacher finished the weekend with another win to put them both at 3-0 on the weekend in singles action. As a doubles team, the pair went 1-1.

“I think Brigit and Rachel are playing some of the best tennis I’ve seen, which is a real good sign,” said Epley. “Rachel was extraordinary in singles and doubles, and today was the best I’ve seen Brigit play in terms of bringing her whole game together.”

The Gamecocks got another solid performance from Martins as she took down Winthrop’s top player, Lauren Proctor, 7-6 (3), 6-1. In the end, Martins was tabbed the top player for the weekend based on points. Alison Mills also had a strong showing Sunday as she defeated Nida Kamal, 6-4, 7-5. Silvia Chinellato, Carolina’s newest addition, collected her first collegiate singles win by topping Alysa Mourad, 6-3, 6-2.
