Several Gamecocks Impress on Day Two of Ivy-plus, Southern Intercollegiates

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Another good effort at both the Ivy-Plus Invitational and the Southern Intercollegiates has South Carolina in position to come home with a few titles when all is said and done. On Sunday, the Gamecocks will have two opportunities to capture hardware at the Ivy-Plus Invitational.
Ivy-Plus Tournament
There will be three Gamecocks participating in finals matches on Sunday after another positive outing at the Ivy-Plus tournament. In singles, Gabriel Friedrich downed Brown’s Aron Sandberg to advance to the Tiger draw final. That match will take place Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
In doubles action in the Pagoda draw, Thomas Mayronne and Andrew Schafer posted two more wins to put them in Sunday’s final at 9 a.m. against Jean Thirouin and Kenny Tao of Harvard.

Southern Intercollegiates
Highlighting day two at the Southern Intercollegiates was the tandem of Sam Swank and Yancy Dennis. The duo notched two wins on Saturday, helping them advance to the DI doubles quarterfinals on Sunday at 9 a.m. against Florida’s Elliot Orkin and Maxx Lipman. Swank was also impressive in singles as he won his round of 16 match in the DII draw to move on to the quarterfinals. That match will take place on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. against Parker Wynn of Louisville.
