Cameron Advances to Flight B Finals on Day Two of South Carolina Collegiate Invite

BELTON, S.C. ââ’¬” The Gamecock men’s tennis team wrapped up its second day of action at the South Carolina Collegiate Invitational with one player set to play in his first career finals match on Sunday. Freshman Scotty Cameron, competing in the Flight B singles draw, picked up two more wins Saturday to place himself in Sunday’s finals match.

Cameron’s day began with a quarterfinals triumph over Winthrop’s Joshua Ryan. Then, in the semifinals, he upended Patrick Longest of Wofford. Cameron now stands at 4-1 in singles play this young fall season.

Carolina’s other two players in action were Wood Benton and Sam Swank, who competed in the Flight A Draw. Both finished the day 1-1 after opening with a round of 16 win before falling in the quarterfinals. As a doubles team, the duo opened with a quarterfinals win before coming up short in the semifinals.

Sunday, the third and final day of the tournament, will feature Cameron’s finals match in addition to consolation matches for Benton and Swank. Action is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
