Gudjonsson Named C-USA Offensive Player Of The Week

Oct. 3, 2016

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina sophomore forward Bjorn Gudjonsson was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday. Gudjonsson is the second-straight Gamecock to earn player of the week honors, as teammate Kurtis Turner was recognized last week. The player of the week accolade is the first of Gudjonsson’s career.

Gudjonsson played a pivotal role off the bench for Carolina last week, scoring three goals in two games, as the team extended its win streak to six games with wins versus High Point and Marshall.

The Reykjavik, Iceland, native recorded the first multi-goal game of his career in the team’s 3-1 win over High Point after scoring twice in the second half. Gudjonsson also scored Sunday night late in the first half of Carolina’s 2-1 win versus conference rival Marshall.

Gudjonsson is tied for third on the team in points with seven (3G, 1A). He’s tallied seven shots on the year, five of which are shots on goal, good for a .714 shot on goal percentage.

The Gamecocks look to extend their win streak when they return to action Saturday night at Florida International for a C-USA matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Miami.
