COLUMBIA, S.C. – Running on the Sandhill REC course for the second time this fall, South Carolina again claimed the win in the Gamecock Invitational, taking 20 points to win the championship.
In the two-mile race, the Gamecocks posted 10 of the top 12 finishers, including 2-8, en route to the title. Freshman Morgan Lee clocked in at 12:07.31 to lead the way for the Garnet and Black.
Colleen Openshaw claimed third overall with her 12:19.95 timing, just edging out freshman Megan Buechler (12:20.10). Freshman Morgan Adams took fifth at 12:41.92, while Maya Halprin-Adams, in her first race as a Gamecock, finished right behind her at 12:43.08. Rookie Kelsey Larkin also broke 13 with her clocking of 12:59.65, while junior Anna McElrath finished eighth in 13:03.29.
Redshirt sophomore Regina Schreiber (13:15.43), sophomore Julia Nardone (13:26.05) and freshman Maddie Beaubien (14:00.37) closed out the Gamecocks in the field.
South Carolina State’s Marketa Marcanikova won the women’s race in 11:47.34, while the Bulldogs’ Michael Steakhouse claimed the men’s two-mile crown in 10:50.22.
South Carolina heads west to the University of Alabama in 10 days time to run in the Crimson Classic.
