Gamecocks Conclude Play at ITA All-American Championships
Oct. 8, 2016
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. ââ’¬” The Gamecock women’s tennis team closed out play at the Riviera ITA All-American Championships with doubles action in the main draw consolation quarterfinals on Saturday. Hadley Berg and Paige Cline were downed by Oklahoma State’s Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic, 8-2.
“Overall, there were a lot of positives to take from this tournament,” said assistant coach Jeff Nevolo. “We competed well at one of the premier college tennis tournaments in the country. We’re excited to get back to work this coming week.”
Despite coming away with no titles, Carolina was able to accomplish some things that have not been done by the program in quite some time. Ingrid Gamarra Martins’ appearance in the singles main draw round of 16 marked the first time that a Gamecock has gotten that far since 1999. Additionally, Berg and Cline’s inclusion in the doubles main draw is the first time since 2000 (Katarina Markovski/Jennifer Radman).
The Gamecocks will get back on the court when they head to the ITA Carolina Regionals, which is set to run from Friday, Oct. 20 to Sunday, Oct. 22.
