Gamecocks Hit Crimson Classic Trail for Final Tune-up for SEC and Beyond
Oct. 13, 2016
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina gets ready for the postseason with one last regular-season meet, taking on a field of 34 in the Crimson Classic, hosted by Alabama.
The Gamecocks have won three Division I races this season and have improved in each race of the year. However, this will be the first test for the team at the championship distance of 6,000 meters, a change that will test the deep roster of the Garnet and Black.
Senior Mary Reiser has the most experience on the roster at this distance and has posted the third-fastest 6K in program history, that coming in last year’s SEC Championships. For the Gamecocks’ eight freshmen scheduled to compete, this will be their first test at the longer distance. One who’s thrived all season is Anna Kathryn Stoddard, who finished second on the team in two of the team’s three meets. Another freshman, Sarah-Sims McGrath, returns to her home state for the week’s big race.
The meet is held at the Harry Pritchard Running Course, formerly known as the University Golf Course, in Tuscaloosa. Live results can be found at pttiming.com, with the women’s race set to begin at 9:45 a.m. CDT.
