Carolina Completes Day Two of ITA Regionals

CARY, N.C. – The South Carolina men’s tennis team had another strong outing in singles play at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships on Saturday at the Cary Tennis Park. Harrison O’Keefe, Yancy Dennis, Gabriel Friedrich and Thomas Mayronne all advanced to Sunday’s round of 16 with a win on Saturday.
“We saw some good things from everyone in our singles matches today, but I’m a little disappointed in the way we competed in doubles,” said head coach Josh Goffi. “We are looking forward to stepping it up tomorrow.”
O’Keefe, Dennis and Friedrich all cruised to straight-set victories in their round of 32 singles matches, while Mayronne gritted out his win in three sets. All four will be back in action at 9 a.m. on Sunday with their round of 16 matches. The singles quarterfinals will follow the round of 16.
Mayronne and Andrew Schafer continued their strong fall in doubles with two more wins on Saturday, placing them in the round of 16, which will take place beginning at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The other three doubles tandems for Carolina dropped their opening round matches. However, the duos of Friedrich and O’Keefe, and Dennis and Sam Swank, rebounded to pick up wins in the consolation round of 32.
