Carolina to Compete at Charlotte Invitational

Oct. 27, 2016

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Following a successful outing at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships a few weeks ago, the Gamecock men’s tennis team is set to compete at the Charlotte Invitational for the penultimate weekend of the fall campaign.

The tournament, which runs from Oct. 28-30, will feature student-athletes from 13 different schools and will be held at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex on the University of North Carolina at Charlotte campus.

“I’m excited for the tournament this weekend,” said head coach Josh Goffi. “The guys that are going to Charlotte need to keep building through competition. The more matches we can get them, the better.”

Wood Benton, Scotty Cameron, Alex Fennell and Sam Swank make up the Carolina contingent headed to Charlotte for the weekend. Fennell is set to make his 2016 fall debut for the Gamecocks.

“Alex gets to get back to competing after being out with a minor injury all fall,” said Goffi. “He’s going to have to work through some rust but it should be a productive weekend for him.”

The tournament features five separate draws for both singles and doubles. Friday’s schedule of events is slated to begin at 9 a.m. with doubles play prior to singles action in the afternoon.
