Oct. 27, 2016

COLUMBIA, S.C. ââ’¬” Three-time reigning SEC champion South Carolina women’s basketball will be recognized on the field during Saturday’s home football game against Tennessee, and the Gamecocks will be in Gamecock Village to sign autographs before kickoff. Head coach Dawn Staley’s team will also play another surprise role at the evening’s festivities.

Women’s basketball will spend time with fans in Gamecock Village beginning at 5:30 p.m., signing autographs on the team cards provided. During the game, the team will be presented on the field between the first and second quarters, including a special video honoring one of the great legends of the game. Fans will need to keep their eyes peeled throughout the game for the team’s surprise last appearance of the night.

The Gamecocks enter the 2016-17 season as the SEC regular-season favorite, per voting by media who cover the league. Frontcourt All-Americans Alaina Coates and A’ja Wilson highlight the team, which features six newcomers, including junior transfers Kaela Davis and Allisha Gray. The four have all amassed 1,000 points in their careers, highlighting a young team that Staley expects to be among her most versatile offensively. Senior Tiffany Davis joins Coates and Wilson as team captains, and junior Bianca Cuevas will help lead a cadre of young guards into the gauntlet of a non-conference schedule with eyes on a fourth-straight SEC championship.

South Carolina will host Benedict in an exhibition game on Mon., Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. at Colonial Life Arena. Admission is free to the game. The Gamecocks open the regular season on the road a week later ââ’¬” at Ohio State, Mon., Nov. 14 ââ’¬” before returning to Columbia for their home opener on Sun., Nov. 20, at 3 p.m.
