COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina head men’s basketball coach Frank Martin announced on Thursday that Evan Hinson (Fr. — G — 6-4 — 238 — Deltona, Fla./Deltona), a freshman tight end on the Gamecock football team, will also join the Carolina basketball team for the 2016-17 campaign.

Hinson averaged 23.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game as a junior when he was named the Daytona Beach News-Journal’s Player of the Year on the hardwood. Hinson played for his father, Denny, at Deltona High.

South Carolina continues preseason practice in advance of its exhibition contest versus Newberry on Nov. 6. Tip-off is slated at Colonial Life Arena for 4:30 p.m. ET versus the Wolves.
