Carolina Concludes Fall Season

Nov. 6, 2016

The Gamecock men’s tennis team finished the 2016 fall season on Sunday with the team split between the SEC Coaches Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and the Bulldog Scramble in Athens, Ga. Several Gamecocks picked up wins on the year’s final day of collegiate competition.

“I’m very happy with the way the guys finished today,” said head coach Josh Goffi. “We’ve been harping on being relentless with their focus and their intention throughout an entire match and they did well with that today. Overall, we’ve had a successful fall and we will ramp up the off court training in the coming weeks as we head into the offseason.”

At the SEC Coaches Classic, all three Gamecocks in action posted a win in their consolation match. In the Jeff Robinson draw, Andrew Schafer topped Auburn’s Carles Sarrio 7-5, 6-3, while Harrison O’Keefe took down McClain Kessler of Florida 7-5, 6-1. Over in the Francisco Rodriguez draw, Gabriel Friedrich eased past Florida’s Jordan Belga 6-0, 6-0. Thomas Mayronne did not compete on Sunday.

At the Bulldog Scramble, Sam Swank and Alex Fennell began the day by falling to Georgia Tech’s Yun and Gresk in doubles. The weekend’s schedule ended with one final round of doubles play. Scotty Cameron won his match over Princeton’s Tom Colautti 6-3, 6-1 to finish 4-0 in singles on the weekend. Sam Swank also picked up a victory, defeating No. 73-ranked Carlos Benito of Georgia Tech. Alex Fennell fell to Georgia’s Robert Loeb 7-6 (2), 6-4.
