Gamecock Softball Featured Eight Times on SEC Network in 2017

Dec. 15, 2016

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina softball team had eight of its games picked for broadcast on the SEC Network as part of more than 50 the outlet will televise in 2017, ESPN and the SEC announced today.

Two of South Carolina’s home weekends will be shown in their entirety on the channel this spring: all-evening starts for the April 1-3 series against Texas A&M as well as the three-game set against 2016 Women’s College World Series participant LSU. The games against the Aggies begin at 6 p.m. on Sat., April 1 ahead of 7 p.m. first pitches on both Sun. and Mon. The Friday night affair against the Tigers starts at 7 p.m. EDT as part of the SEC Network’s “Bases Loaded” coverage of all seven games in the league that night. The Saturday game against the Bayou Bengals is set for a 6 p.m. first pitch, while Sunday’s regular-season finale begins at 12 noon.

The Gamecocks will also open the SEC portion of the network’s schedule with its 1 p.m. game at Tennessee on Sat., March 11. The series’ final game is also set for the network’s broadcast at 1 p.m. from Lee Softball Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn. The SEC Network will also televise the first and second rounds of the SEC Tournament, eight games total, from Knoxville on May 10-11.

This is the second time in the three-year history of the SEC Network, the Gamecocks have had eight games picked up for telecast as part of the league’s TV package. The rest of the 32-game home schedule is slated to be shown on the SEC Network + on ESPN3, the web-streaming component of ESPN’s commitment with the SEC.

South Carolina has won 38 games the past two seasons and has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last four under the guidance of head coach Beverly Smith. Seven position starters and all but one inning pitched returns from last year’s team that played in the Tallahassee Regional Championship Game. Season tickets are on sale for the full home slate, with the affordable price of $25 for general-admission tickets back for adults. Youth 17 and under once again can get season tickets for $10.
