Gamecocks Improve to No. 19 in Oracle/ITA Rankings

Feb. 15, 2017

COLUMBIA, S.C. ââ’¬” On the heels of a 7-0 sweep over rival Clemson on Saturday, South Carolina women’s tennis improved to No. 19 in this week’s Oracle/ITA Rankings. The ranking is two spots higher than the team’s previous ranking of No. 21. The Gamecocks are 6-1 in dual play this spring with their one loss coming from a tough 4-3 battle against then No. 21 Arizona St.

The Gamecocks have three ranked singles with one ranked pair in doubles. Ingrid Gamarra Martins comes in with the highest ranking at No. 12, her highest career ranking. Also in the rankings are freshmen Mia Horvit (99) and Silvia Chinellato (121). Horvit has made an immediate impact on the team, taking three wins in the No. 1 spot and defeating two ranked opponents this spring.

Hadley Berg and Paige Cline come in at No. 35 in doubles, the only ranked Gamecock duo. The pair is 7-3 this season and 3-1 in dual play.

The Gamecocks return to action Saturday, Feb. 25 to face their first ranked opponent, No. 2 North Carolina, at the Carolina Tennis Center. Admission and parking for all home tennis matches are free of charge.
