Gamecock Fans Prepare for Greenville

March 15, 2017

For the first time in over a decade, the Gamecocks are headed to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament! Your support has been a big reason for our success this season.

The Gamecocks will face Marquette on Friday at a sold-out Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, SC (tip-off: approximately 9:50 PM). Our matchup with Marquette is part of the evening session in Greenville, which also includes Duke facing Troy in a game scheduled to tip-off at 7:20 PM.

The NCAA announced on Monday that the Greenville sessions had sold out, the first tournament site to do so. This is the first time since 2002 that the state of South Carolina has hosted an NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament game.

The ticket requests for our first appearance in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament since 2004 has been overwhelming. Unfortunately, the NCAA limits participating institutions to just 450 tickets, which covers the parents of our team’s student-athletes, player guests, coaches and staff as well as all University constituents. The majority of tickets for the Greenville sessions were sold by the NCAA and Bon Secours Wellness Arena in advance of Selection Sunday.

Following our selection to Greenville, the Athletics Department made attempts to secure more tickets for fans who requested them, but were not able to get them.

With the close proximity of the game in Greenville, the Gamecock Club and Athletics Ticket Office were unable to fulfill the vast majority of ticket requests from members and the University community. At the end of the request period, the Athletics Department had received requests for more than 2,000 tickets.

“This weekend promises to be great for Gamecock basketball with our men’s and women’s teams participating in the NCAA Tournament, both in the Palmetto State. We look forward to seeing all Gamecocks at Colonial Life Arena and in Greenville this weekend. This is a great time to be a Gamecock!” – Ray Tanner , Athletics Director

“Considering the number of tickets we received, this is the highest demand event that I have ever been involved with. When you combine our incredible Gamecock fan-base, the availability of only 450 tickets, and proximity of Greenville, SC, that is not nearly enough!” – Lance Grantham , Assistant AD – Ticket Operations & Customer Relations

Tickets remain available for the First & Second Rounds in Greenville on the secondary market (PrimeSport, StubHub, etc.). Fans can also use the official NCAA Ticket Exchange, PrimeSport, to purchase tickets. The NCAA Ticket Exchange allows fans to buy and sell official tickets online in an NCAA-approved, safe and 100 percent guaranteed environment. For more information on the NCAA Ticket Exchange, please visit PrimeSport.com.

Gamecock Club members have the opportunity to place requests for future rounds of the tournament (Sweet Sixteen/Elite Eight, Final Four), should the Gamecocks advance, online at GamecocksOnline.com/Tickets or by calling the Gamecock Club at (803) 777-4276 or Athletics Ticket Office at (803) 777-4274.
