Gamecocks Climb to No. 13 in ITA Rankings

March 28, 2017

COLUMBIA, S.C. ââ’¬” South Carolina women’s tennis moved up 11 spots to No. 13 in this week’s Oracle/ITA Rankings. It marks the highest ranking for the team since the Gamecocks came in at No. 13 in the May 5 rankings last season after going 19-8 overall and 9-4 in SEC play.

Individually, two Gamecocks are slotted in the singles rankings. Sophomore Ingrid Gamarra Martins is the team’s highest player, coming in at No. 36, with a 5-2 dual play record and a 3-1 record in league play. Freshman Mia Horvit enters the rankings at No. 75 with five wins in the No. 1 spot and an undefeated record in the No. 2 spot.

The doubles tandem of Hadley Berg and Paige Cline is the only ranked pair for the Gamecocks with their No. 42 ranking. The duo is 5-6 overall and 1-3 in SEC play this season.

The Gamecocks earned a pair of SEC road victories last weekend. They topped then No. 44 Missouri, 4-2, on Friday and No. 18 Arkansas, 4-2, on Sunday to improve to 13-5 this spring and 4-3 in conference play.

No. 12 Auburn (18-6, 2-5) comes to town this Friday for a top-15 battle at the Carolina Tennis Center. Parking and admission at all home matches are free of charge.
