PHILADELPHIA, PA. – The South Carolina track and field team wraps up the 2017 regular season this weekend with the 123rd Penn Relays Carnival, held at Franklin Field. The historic three-day event pits the Gamecocks against the best collegiate talent in the country, as well as top international athletes.

The team will compete for the famed Wagon Wheel in four different relays on the men’s and women’s side: 4×100, 4×200, 4×400 and 4x800m. South Carolina already owns 20 relay titles in the meet’s history, and come into the weekend with relay titles in each of the last two trips to the Penn Relays. Last season, the men’s 4×200 team won, and in 2015 it was the men’s shuttle hurdle relay. The women’s team accounts for 14 of the 20 titles, with the last win coming in 2007.

Individually, South Carolina will compete in three events Thursday, seven on Friday and five on Saturday. The Gamecocks won an individual title in the 400m hurdles last season, thanks to Jussi Kanervo’s time of 50.54 to best the field.

Last weekend, the Gamecocks won 11 titles at the USC Open, the team’s final home meet until the SEC Championships. Mary Reiser (3000m), Allie Mueller (1500m), Yann Randrianasolo (long jump), Rougui Sow (long jump), Otis Jones (800m), Nakita Gray (high jump), Kara Lyles (400mH), Eric Favors (shot put) and Tye Williams (high jump) earned individual victories. For the relays, the men’s 4x100m and the women’s 4×400 won at home in the final tune-ups before Penn.
