SCDOT Installs Gamecock National Championship Signage

COLUMBIA, S.C. ââ’¬” The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) installed today the first of 15 state highway signs recognizing South Carolina’s 2017 Women’s Basketball National Championship. The initial sign went up at southbound SC 277 near the Harden Street Extension intersections with the others going up at Welcome Centers near the South Carolina border and at several other locations around the City of Columbia. The signs, for which SCDOT funds were not used, will remain in place for one year. The complete list of sign locations is below:

South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley led the Gamecocks to the program’s first NCAA National Championship in April, capping a season that also saw the program record its fourth-straight SEC regular-season championship and third-straight SEC Tournament title. Led by junior forward A’ja Wilson, who was a finalist for three national player of the year awards and the SEC Player of the Year for the second-straight season, the Gamecocks went 33-4 on the season and won their six NCAA Tournament games by an average of 20.5 points. Junior guards Kaela Davis and Allisha Gray each averaged over 15.0 points en route to the tournament title. Three members of the 2016-17 team were selected among the top 10 in the 2017 WNBA Draft, including senior Alaina Coates, who was the No. 2 pick ââ’¬” the highest in program history.
