Eigenbrot and Miller Promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Directors
July 19, 2017 Steve Eigenbrot and Chance Miller have been promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Directors, University of South Carolina Athletics Director Ray Tanner announced today.
Eigenbrot has been named Senior Associate AD/Development and Gamecock Club. In his eighth year at South Carolina, Eigenbrot has served in various fundraising roles within Gamecock Athletics, most recently as the Associate Athletics Director for Development. In his new role, he will oversee all fundraising activities for the program including the Gamecock Club, premium seating and major gift fundraising. He will also add the role of primary sport administrator for men’s and women’s golf.
“Steve has been a phenomenal member of our team and has earned this leadership opportunity,” said Tanner. “He is one of the bright young stars in our profession and we are fortunate to have him as a Gamecock. His creative and collaborative approach to fundraising has elevated our program.”
Eigenbrot joined the South Carolina Athletic Department staff in 2010 as the Assistant Director of Major Gifts. Most recently, he has managed the team that raised over $300 million for student-athlete scholarships and new facilities. Eigenbrot has personally raised over $11 million in philanthropic support for Gamecock Athletics.
Before his arrival at South Carolina, Eigenbrot directed the annual fund for University of Nevada-Las Vegas Athletics. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, as well as master’s degrees in Sport Administration and Business Administration from Ohio University. He also holds a doctorate from UNLV in higher education leadership.
Miller has been named Senior Associate AD/Compliance Services. He joined the Gamecocks’ staff in April 2013 as the Assistant Athletics Director/Compliance Services, and was promoted to Associate Athletics Director/Compliance Services in 2016. In his role, Miller reports directly to both the athletics director and the general counsel.
“Chance adds so much to our staff,” said Tanner. “His talents and leadership in compliance definitely have warranted him this promotion. His varied background and astute perspectives help every area of our athletics department.”
Miller’s primary responsibilities include serving as a member of the athletics department’s senior management team, overseeing the institution’s athletics compliance program, as well as serving as the sport administrator for the women’s and men’s swimming and diving programs.
From February 2009 until his arrival in Columbia, Miller worked at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). At the NCAA, he served as an assistant and associate director on the enforcement staff. During his time at the NCAA, Miller was the lead investigator on several NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions cases. Miller also served on the NCAA Committee on Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct, NCAA Football Issues Working Group and NCAA and NFL Agent Regulation Working Group.
Prior to the NCAA, Miller practiced law in New York City. Miller served as the assistant corporation counsel for the New York City Law Department where he represented all of the New York City agencies, including the NYPD, FDNY, New York City Teachers Union, and New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation. Miller also gained experience during his time in New York working at the National Football League in its legal department assisting with player conduct and disciplinary issues and coaches’ contract approvals.
A native of Johnson City, Tenn., Miller earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Tennessee (2004) and later received his juris doctorate from New York Law School (2008).
