Matt Lisle Joins South Carolina as Gamecock Softball Assistant Coach

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina Head Softball Coach Beverly Smith has hired Matt Lisle as an assistant coach, bringing in a coach who has a history of improving offenses in short order.
“I am thrilled to announce the addition of Matt Lisle to our staff,” remarked Smith. “I was immediately impressed by his work ethic, drive and professionalism. He has a passion for hitting that is evident. I believe the Gamecock hitters will benefit from his extensive knowledge and ability to teach. I am looking forward to welcoming Matt and his family to Columbia.”
Most recently, Lisle served as head coach at Menlo College, leading the 2016 Oaks to their first winning season in 14 years, going 30-20, with Lisle helping four of his hitters achieve All-Golden State Athletic Conference honors. Lisle’s resume also includes stops as an assistant at Cal State-East Bay in 2014 and Santa Clara in 2015. At East Bay, his teams went from seven home runs to 48 in one season, ranking second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in slugging and RBI, while helping the team rank in the top 50 in NCAA Division II in home runs per game. The Broncos posted the second-best batting average in program history, jumping over 30 points, while also helping SCU to its highest RPI finish in program history.
Lisle started his collegiate softball coaching career as a volunteer with Oregon in 2012, helping the Ducks to their first Pac-12 championship. He came from baseball, working up the high school ranks. He got his break as the associate head coach at Patten University for two years before becoming the head baseball coach at NCAA Division III Gallaudet in 2007-08.
In addition to his high school and collegiate coaching positions, Lisle has built a strong following online among NPF and MLB players as a hitting consultant through his online videos and e-books. He also is a national clinician, serving as a featured speaker at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association conference in 2014.
Lisle earned his bachelor’s degree in organizational management from Patten University in 2006. Lisle has five children: Alicia, Chappie, Chase, Presley and Crosby, and he is married to Jessica. Lisle replaces Calvin Beamon on the South Carolina staff.
