Equestrian vs. Clemson (Exhibition)

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina equestrian rolled to a 19-0 win over in-state rival Clemson in an exhibition on Friday at One Wood Farm to open the season.

Carolina picked up all four MOPs as Lauren Fabiano (Flat), Tyler Petrie (Fences), Megan Overberg (Horsemanship) and Paisley Roberts (Reining) earned the recognition.

“Today I learned that our riders do well in the heat. It was pretty hot and humid today and our horses did really well and our girls do really well. We did pretty well today. Overall I thought our girls concentrated on the riding. I thought we had good warmups, there for our girls had a good opportunity to get in there and get the job done. We’ve got a few things that we’ve got to work on, you always do, but it was a great start.”

HORSEMANSHIP RECAP

The Gamecocks opened the afternoon by sweeping all five points in horsemanship. Quinn Brandt defeated Rachel Wright on Reggie, 72.5-63, while Madison Thiel earned a 69.5-59 win over Emily Stewart-Foxx on Amos Paige Stopperich knocked off Ashley McCarter, 70-67, on Barbie, and Megan Overberg followed with a 73.5-59 win over Brianne Lenehan on Skeeto. Finally, Meredith Milton picked up a 70-.5-60 victory on Caper over Molly Goldberg.

EQUITATION ON THE FLAT RECAP

Carolina continued its winning ways with four points in equitation on the flat. Raleigh Bacharach defeated Alison Harbold on Leon, 75-64, while Madison Brayman picked up the 77-55 win over Maddie Rodgers on Mike. Madison Sellman defeated Hannah Stephens 78-64 on Fina while Lauren Fabiano picked up the win over Julia Schaumann 87-63 on Tattoo.

EQUITATION OVER FENCES RECAP

The Gamecocks kept it rolling in fences with all five Carolina riders picking up wins. Tyler Petrie defeated Hannah Stephens on Batman, 85-64, while Chloe Schmidt took down Emma Lemke on Indie, 83-79. Sarah Isgett picked up the 85-70 win over Emmy Reynolds on Volan while Lauren Fabiano defeated Alex McReady 84-68 on Kenny. Madison Sellman picked up the fifth point in an 86-68 win over Hollan Nievergelt on Joe.

REINING RECAP

Carolina closed the day in reining with five points. Addie Cromer defeated McKenzie Duncan 70-69.5 on Rooster while Caroline Gute earned a 71-0 win over Jordan Scott on Wrangler. Aurie Engel Schmieding earned a 68.5-65.5 win over Ashley McCater while Paisley Roberts defeated Bridgett White 71.5-69.5 on Carmen. Madison Thiel accounted for the fifth point in a 71-69.5 victory over Farley Wickre on Paddy.

South Carolina competes in its first regular season meet of the 2017-18 season on Friday, Sept. 29, when they travel to No. 1 Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. The season opener start time will be determined at a later date.
