Carolina Duo Takes No. 1 Doubles Unit In TCU Tournament

FORT WORTH, Texas – The doubles tandem of Hadley Berg and Paige Cline took down the No.1 doubles duo in the country in the morning session on Friday to start a successful first day for South Carolina women’s tennis at the Elite 5 Tournament at Texas Christian University.
Berg and Cline took down Alex Najarian and Kate Fahey of Michigan, 6-4, to start the doubles portion of the morning and propel the Gamecocks with a big early victory and confidence to carry through the day.
“I was very impressed with how we carried ourselves today,” associate head coach Jeff Nevolo said. “The results came because we had a number of team members commit to their games and team standards of competition. We’re excited to get back out and keep competing.”
Megan Davies and Silvia Chinellato continued the Gamecocks winning ways in doubles with a 6-4 victory over Mira Ruder-Hook/Chiara Lommer of Michigan.
In singles, Berg carried on her momentum from the doubles win and earned a 6-3, 6-4 two-set victory over Lommer of Michigan. Chinellato kept the wins coming with a 5-7, 6-2, (10-6) victory over Najarian of Michigan.
Although a just a freshman, Davies showed no nerves in her first competition away from Columbia and rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ruder-hook of Michigan.
In the evening session, Davies and Chinellato defeated Federici and Angyalosy of Texas Tech to secure a doubles win for the Gamecocks.
In the singles portion of the evening, Berg proved to be too much in 6-4, 6-1 victory over Alex Valenstein of Texas Tech while Chinelatto took down Sarah Dvorak 6-2, 6-2 in her match.
Davies kept the winning train rolling with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lana Rush of Texas Tech.
