Roberts Named SEC Reining Rider Of The Month
Oct. 4, 2017
COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina equestrian’s Paisley Roberts was named the SEC Reining Rider of the Month for September, the league office announced today. A senior, this marks Roberts’ first career conference rider of the month award.
Roberts went 2-0 in the month with wins in the Clemson exhibition victory and the 12-8 loss to No. 1 Texas A&M this past week.
“It’s unbelievably exciting,” associate head coach Ruth Sorrel said. “With her hard work and dedication to this program, it’s nice to finally see it pay off. She comes out to practice every day and works hard. Always shows well and for her to get the nod is very exciting.”
Roberts opened the season with a 71.5-69.5 win on Carmen in the Clemson exhibition before riding to a hard-fought 72.5-72 win with Sailor against the Aggies a week later in College Station.
This is Carolina’s first rider of the month for the season and the first since Madison Thiel and Madison Butehorn both received the honor on Oct. 5, 2016.
Carolina has a little time off before heading to South Dakota State next week, looking to rebound from the A&M loss. Competition is set to begin at 11 a.m. ET. on Oct. 13.
