Gamecocks Head To South Dakota For Non-Conference Meet

BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Carolina hits the road for the second-half of its two-meet road trip to open the season as it travels to South Dakota State on Friday. Action is set to begin at 10 a.m. ET with live stats on gamecocksonline.com.

The Gamecocks come into the meet looking to avenge their loss at No. 1 Texas A&M to open the season on Sept. 29. Carolina has started the season 1-1 or better 11 times since the 2005-06 season.

SCOUTING THE GAMECOCKS

Carolina comes into the matchup with South Dakota State with an 0-1 record after falling to No. 1 Texas A&M to open the regular season. The Gamecocks also notably defeated in-state foe Clemson, 19-0, in an exhibition at One Wood Farm on Sept. 22.

After her performance for the month of September, Paisley Roberts was named the SEC Rider of the Month for Reining.

SCOUTING THE JACKRABBITS

South Dakota State comes into the meet coming off two losses to open the season. The Jackrabbits opened the year with a 12-4 loss to No. 1 Texas A&M before dropping a tough 17-2 meet to Fresno State the following day. The meeting with South Carolina with be South Dakota State’s home opener.

THE LAST TIME OUT

The last time out, Carolina opened the season at No. 1 Texas A&M in a tough 12-8 loss. The Gamecocks were tied with the top-ranked team in the country after Equitation Over Fences and Horsemanship, but a late Aggie push proved to be the difference in the meet.

For her efforts in horsemanship, Madison Thiel was named MOP while the Aggies took the remaining three MOP honors.

SERIES HISTORY

The Gamecocks are 5-0 against the Jackrabbits since the 2005-06 season. Both teams have traded two competitions at home, with the last meeting coming at a neutral site. Carolina has won 10 or more points in four of the five meetings.
