Carolina Starts Kitty Harrison Right With Strong Friday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis won 10 of 11 matches to start the Kitty Harrison at the University of North Carolina on Friday. Carolina took all five double matches and five of six singles to cap off a successful first day in the final tournament of the fall.
The Gamecocks started the day in doubles, where Paige Cline and Ingrid Gamarra Martins started the day with an 8-4 victory over Michigan’s Alex Najarian and Mira Ruder-Hook. Megan Davies and Silvia Chinellato closed doubles with an 8-7 victory against Lera Patiuk and Kara Hall of Michigan.
South Carolina also swept three Penn State doubles tandems in their matches.
From there, Carolina carried its momentum into singles, facing six Kansas State opponents. Davies started the session with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Ines Mesquita while Cline picked up a 7-5, 6-3 win against Anna Turco. Rachel Rohrabacher earned a 6-3, 7-6 win over Carolina Constamagna while Hadley Berg fought to a 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) victory against Maria Linares. Martins closed the day with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Meghan King.
