2018 Carolina Softball Schedule

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina softball and head coach Beverly Smith proudly announced the 2018 schedule on Friday. The schedule features 19 games against teams in the final 2017 top-25 poll, 29 against teams in the RPI top-50 and eight games against teams that reached the WCWS last season.

The challenging slate includes 27 home, 18 road and 11 neutral site games. Carolina will face off against the defending national champion Oklahoma twice and national runner-up Florida three times while facing an additional 16 tournament teams from last year.

Carolina will travel to seven different states throughout the course of the season, including: Florida, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Texas, Kentucky and Missouri.

“It’s important to me when we’re scheduling to prepare my team for conference play,” Smith said. “I think our 2018 nonconference schedule has accomplished that. We’re going to face a lot of teams from the RPI top-50 or coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance. The more competitive nonconference schedule we play, the better we will be prepared for SEC play, and I’ve got a team that is up for the challenge.”

The Gamecocks start the year in Miami for the Florida International Tournament. Carolina opens the season with a doubleheader on Feb. 9 against East Carolina and Hofstra.

Carolina returns to Carolina Stadium at Beckham Field for the first time in 2018 to host the Gamecock Invitational starting Feb. 16. The Gamecocks will also host the Carolina Classic in Columbia starting March 2.

Next up, South Carolina travels to Oklahoma to face the defending-champion Sooners for two games in the Oklahoma Tournament starting March 10.

SEC play begins with a three-game series at Ole Miss starting March 16 while the SEC-home opener will be March 23 when the Gamecocks start a three-game series with Tennessee.

The Gamecocks close SEC-regular season play at Kentucky with a three-game set starting May 4.

The 2018 SEC Tournament in Columbia, Mo., is set for May 9-12 before NCAA Regionals over May 18-20. NCAA Super Regionals will run May 25-27 with the season set to conclude in Oklahoma City at the Women’s College World Series from May 30 to June 3.
