No. 15 South Carolina Cruises To Victory Over USF

TAMPA, Fla. – No. 15 South Carolina women’s tennis (1-1) cruised to a 4-0 victory against USF at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts on Sunday.

The Gamecocks secured the doubles point with two straight wins, and rattled off three straight victories in singles to win their first match of the 2018 dual season.

DOUBLES

The Gamecocks clinched the doubles point with two straight match victories. The tandem of Ingrid Gamarra Martins and Silvia Chinellato, who were paired for the first time this season, defeated Nicole Dzenga and Vanja Klaric, 6-2. In similar fashion, Mia Horvit and Megan Davies were paired for the first time this season and sailed to a 6-1 win over Alexandria Mjos and Ana Roman Dominguez. The doubles match between #33 Hadley Berg and Rachel Rohrabacher and USF’s Alexandria Mjos and Ana Roman Dominguez went unfinished, 2-4.

SINGLES

Rachel Rohrabacher roared to a dominant 6-3, 6-2 victory against USF’s Nicole Dzenga for her first singles match victory of the season. Similar to Rohrabacher, the No. 105-ranked Megan Davies earned her first match victory of 2018 by defeating Vanja Klaric in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Ingrid Gamarra Martins earned her second straight singles victory of the weekend, defeating Juliana Cardoso in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

UP NEXT FOR THE GAMECOCKS

The Gamecocks will host Clemson, Southern Cal and Oklahoma during ITA Kick-Off Weekend from Jan. 26-27 at the Carolina Tennis Center. As the No. 1 seeded team of the weekend, South Carolina opens play against four-seeded Oklahoma at 2 p.m. on Jan. 26. The winner of that match will play the winner of two-seeded Southern Cal vs. three-seeded Clemson in the Championship match at 2 p.m. on Jan. 27. The winner of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend will advance to the ITA Indoor Championship from Feb. 9-11 in Madison, Wis.
