2017 USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams

NEW ORLEANS, La. — The University of South Carolina cross country program was named a United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2017 All-Academic Team, the organization announced Friday. The Gamecocks finished the season with a cumulative GPA of 3.74, 10th-best in the nation among women’s cross country teams.

“It’s very important for our program to continue our tradition of academic excellence,” cross country coach Andrew Allden said. “Coach Frye and I take academic performance very seriously, so to win this honor again is a great testament to the dedication of our student-athletes. We have 29 great students on our team, including student-athletes in some very challenging majors. They push themselves every day, and they are very deserving of this award.”

This is the 17th-consecutive season that the Gamecocks have been honored as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. Carolina has finished in the national top-20 in 12 straight seasons and posted the top GPA in the nation in 2008 and 2014.

In addition to their classroom excellence, the Gamecocks earned their first USTFCCCA Southeast Regional ranking since 2015 and their highest SEC Championship finish since 2014.

UP NEXT FOR THE GAMECOCKS

Members of the cross country team are competing as part of the Carolina track & field program this weekend at the Tiger Paw Invitational. The meet runs Friday and Saturday in Clemson, S.C.
